Chlorides Matter

The water being put into a Crown Royal Stove to protect it from corrosion should be at least as good as quality drinking water. While Chlorides (a mineral commonly known as salt) are not usually harmful to people, they are harmful to stainless steel and will increase corrosion in your wood boiler.
With the mixture of water, heat and oxygen, corrosion can and will form. We have discovered that some well water in addition to water that has passed through a water softener contain high Chloride levels and will cause corrosion. Never fill your Crown Royal Stove with water that has been passed through a water softener.
If you are unsure of the status of your water, we recommend sending in a sample to our testing facility and getting results before adding it to your boiler. If an excellent water source is unavailable to you, we recommend distilled water. This is a small price to pay to protect an investment you just spent thousands of dollars on.
